This morning was our first day in the classroom. We studied the geography and history of ancient Ireland. Our lessons discussed the formation of glacial landscapes and subsequently the way sandstone and limestone rocks were used as secular and sacred spaces in ancient Ireland.
This was followed by a visit to the amazing geopark of the Cavan Burren. Our guide Seamus introduced us to neolithic settlements, from wall enclosures to sacred tombs. We saw roc
k art that repreated itself on more than of a few erratics along our trail.
Keeping with the theme of natural resources, we stopped at the Beleek Pottery factory in County Fermanagh. The factory was opened in 1859 and makes a very unique cream coloured china.
